Nidrîc
Nidrîc is a toponym and cultural concept that appears in the early medieval chronicles of the Eastern Caucasus region, particularly within the inscriptions attributed to the ancient Kumkuch civilization. According to the surviving stone tablets, which were dated to the 9th century CE, “Nidrîc” was the name given to a fortified hilltop settlement that served as a trade nexus between the lowland river peoples and the highland pastoral groups. The etymology of the word is debated; linguistic scholars have suggested that it derives from the Proto‑Caucasian root *nidra, meaning “watchtower,” combined with the suffix *–c, a locative marker.
