Ngarkic

Ngarkic is a linguistic term used to refer to a small, poorly attested set of languages that some researchers have grouped under a common lineage. The name generally derives from an ethnonym or region associated with the languages in early documentation. Because the available evidence is limited, Ngarkic remains a contested and not universally accepted classification.

Classification of Ngarkic is debated. A minority of scholars have treated Ngarkic as a valid genetic branch within a larger language family, citing proposed shared phonological or lexical features. The majority of researchers, however, regard the evidence as insufficient to establish a genetic relationship, and many classify the languages under neighboring families or as part of an areal grouping rather than a true genetic subgroup.
