Neutrinoers

Neutrinoers are individuals who study, design, build, or analyze neutrino-related experiments and data. The term can refer to professional physicists, engineers, data scientists, educators, and, in informal usage, citizen scientists who contribute to neutrino research. Neutrinoers work across universities, national laboratories, and research consortia, often collaborating across disciplines such as particle physics, astrophysics, and computer science.

Their activities include developing detectors (water Cherenkov, liquid scintillator, and time projection chambers), conducting experiments to measure neutrino properties, observing neutrinos from the sun, the atmosphere, reactors, or astrophysical sources, and analyzing data to determine oscillation parameters, masses, and the possible existence of sterile neutrinos. Neutrinoers also contribute to detector calibration, data processing, and the interpretation of results for broader scientific and educational audiences.

Notable experiments and facilities associated with neutrino research include Super-Kamiokande in Japan, the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory in Canada, and the IceCube Neutrino Observatory in Antarctica. Emerging and planned facilities such as the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) in the United States and the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) in China illustrate ongoing growth in the field. The work often involves large collaborations, long data-taking periods, and international cooperation.

The term neutrinoer is informal; the field more commonly describes participants as neutrino physicists, engineers, or researchers. The community emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, open data practices where appropriate, and the education and outreach efforts that help explain neutrino science to broader audiences.
