Neurotiker

Neurotiker is a term that can refer to a person exhibiting neurotic traits or behaviors. In psychology, neurotism is one of the five broad personality traits described by the Big Five personality traits model. Individuals high in neurotism tend to experience negative emotions such as anxiety, anger, worry, and sadness more frequently and intensely than those low in neurotism. They may be more prone to stress and have difficulty recovering from it.

The term "neurotiker" is sometimes used colloquially to describe someone who appears overly anxious, sensitive, or prone to worry. This usage can overlap with clinical definitions but is often less precise. In a clinical context, persistent and severe manifestations of neurotism might be associated with anxiety disorders or mood disorders, though neurotism itself is a personality dimension rather than a disorder.

It is important to distinguish between everyday worries and clinical conditions. While high neurotism can predispose individuals to psychological distress, it does not automatically mean a person has a mental health disorder. Many people with high neurotism live fulfilling lives, often benefiting from strategies to manage their emotional responses. The concept of neurotism is understood as a spectrum, with individuals falling at various points along it.
