Nepet

Népet is a small village located in the Khairpur District of Sindh Province in Pakistan. It falls under the administrative jurisdiction of Budhi Kothi Tehsil and is part of the Khairpur division. The village sits at an elevation of approximately 15 metres above sea level and lies close to the Manjara River, which supplies water for farming and domestic use.

The local geography is characterised by flat plains and an arid climate. Summers are hot, with temperatures often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, while winters are mild. The river valley supports agriculture that is largely dependent on seasonal monsoon rains and riverine irrigation.

According to the most recent census, Népet has a population of about 3,500 residents. The majority of inhabitants belong to Sindhi-speaking communities, with a small proportion of Baloch and Urdu-speaking minorities. The village is organized into several clans that maintain traditional social structures.

The economy of Népet is primarily agrarian, with crops such as wheat, cotton, and sugarcane constituting the main produce. Small-scale livestock rearing, including cattle and goats, supplements household incomes. In recent years, there has been gradual development of local markets and cooperative societies to improve trade and access to credit.

Public services in Népet include a primary school that serves children up to the sixth grade and a health outpost providing basic medical care. Postal services and a modest bus terminal connect the village to Khairpur city and other nearby towns. Road infrastructure remains underdeveloped, with unpaved lanes frequently affected by seasonal flooding. Nonetheless, community initiatives are underway to improve road quality and expand access to clean water.
