Nefreti

Nefreti is a fictional civilization frequently used in fantasy fiction and worldbuilding exercises. In various canons, the Nefreti are described as a riverine people centered on a major inland delta on a large continental landmass. The specifics—location, time period, and political organization—vary by author, but the name generically denotes a coherent cultural group with shared language, religion, and material culture.

They inhabit a landscape that blends fertile plains with arid hinterlands. Irrigation networks, canals, and fortified granaries mark their settlements. Social life centers on city-states linked by trade and religious rites; governance ranges from a priestly council to a hereditary monarchy, depending on the story. The priesthood often wields considerable influence, while merchant families control long-distance trade.

Religious practice is polytheistic, with a sun deity central to state cults and a storm or river god associated with floods and renewal. Art tends toward geometric motifs, pottery with slip decoration, and monumental architecture featuring step platforms and defensive walls. The Nefreti also develop a distinctive writing system, used for administration, poetry, and ritual texts.
