Nariva
Nariva refers to a wetlands complex on the eastern coast of Trinidad, Trinidad and Tobago, comprising the Nariva Swamp and the Nariva Nature Reserve. The area spans mangrove forest, freshwater swamp, and damp forest habitats connected by the Nariva River and its distributaries. It represents one of the country’s most extensive wetland ecosystems, supporting high biodiversity and serving as a critical site for birdlife, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals adapted to seasonal flooding. Prominent features include extensive mangrove belts along tidal channels and inland swamp forests that seasonally flood, creating a mosaic of habitats that support breeding and foraging grounds for numerous species.
