Napvédelmi, a Hungarian term, translates to "sun protection" in English. It encompasses a range of practices, products, and behaviors designed to shield the skin and eyes from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation emitted by the sun. The primary goal of napvédelmi is to prevent sunburn, premature aging of the skin, and, most importantly, to reduce the risk of developing skin cancers, including melanoma.

Key components of effective napvédelmi include the use of sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF), which should be applied liberally and reapplied regularly, especially after swimming or sweating. Protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts, pants, and wide-brimmed hats, provides a physical barrier against UV rays. Wearing sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays is crucial for protecting the eyes from damage, which can lead to cataracts and other vision problems.

Seeking shade, particularly during the peak hours of sun intensity (typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.), is another fundamental aspect of napvédelmi.
