Nanoinstrumentation

Nanoinstrumentation refers to the development and application of measurement and manipulation tools operating at the nanoscale. These instruments are designed to interact with and characterize materials, structures, and phenomena at the atomic and molecular level, typically ranging from 1 to 100 nanometers. The precise control and observation at this scale enable unprecedented insights into the behavior of matter and the creation of novel nanodevices and nanomaterials.

Key types of nanoinstrumentation include scanning probe microscopy (SPM) techniques such as Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM). AFM uses a sharp tip mounted on a cantilever to scan a surface, detecting forces between the tip and the sample to create topographical maps. STM, on the other hand, measures the quantum mechanical tunneling current between a conductive tip and a conductive sample, allowing for atomic-scale imaging and manipulation.
