Nanningas

Nanningas is a small, unincorporated community located in the southeastern region of the U.S. state of Washington, within Pacific County. Situated along the northern shore of the Columbia River, the area is primarily known for its rural character and proximity to the larger town of Castle Rock, which serves as its nearest municipal center.

The name "Nanningas" is believed to derive from the Chinook Jargon term *nanin*, meaning "river," reflecting the community’s location along the Columbia. The region has a long history of Indigenous habitation, with the Cowlitz people traditionally inhabiting the area before European exploration and settlement. Later, the arrival of fur traders and settlers in the 19th century led to the development of agricultural and logging industries, which remain influential in the local economy today.
