Nahfelderartige refers to a group of small, typically burrowing mammals found in Central Europe. The term translates roughly to "mole-like" and reflects their shared adaptations for subterranean life. Key characteristics include stout bodies, powerful forelimbs with large claws for digging, and reduced or absent external ears. Their eyesight is often poor, as they rely more on their sense of smell and touch to navigate underground.

This group encompasses several species, most notably the European mole (Talpa europaea). These animals are primarily insectivores, feeding on earthworms, grubs, and other invertebrates found in the soil. Their extensive burrowing activities can have a significant impact on soil structure and drainage, sometimes leading to perceived conflicts with human land use, such as gardens and agricultural fields.
