It describes the point at which the needle is mounted so that a secure, sterile, and leak-free connection is achieved for fluid transfer, tissue penetration, or sampling. The term covers both the needle itself and the connecting hub or connector that joins it to a syringe, catheter, or instrument.

A typical Nadelanschluss consists of a stainless steel needle with a sharpened bevel and a plastic hub that enables attachment to other devices. The connection interface is designed to be standardized to allow interchangeability and reliable sealing.
