NY9A

The New York and Atlantic Railway Subdivision 9A (NY9A) is a railway subdivision operated by Conrail Shared Assets Operations (CSAO) in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The NY9A subdivision is a 14.1-mile-long rail line that runs from Perth Amboy to South Amboy, with a fork at Sayreville serving the Norfolk Southern Railway's Green Bay Subdivision.

The NY9A subdivision is primarily used for intermodal and freight cargo movement, with New York and Atlantic Railway (NYA) being the main operator. The NY9A provides connectivity between the NY&A and Norfolk Southern Railway's networks, offering improved operating efficiency and more competitive pricing for shippers. This allows for faster cargo movement between the ports of New York/Newark and inland markets, contributing to regional economic development.

Work on the NY9A began in the late 19th century under the ownership of the Paterson, Newark and New York Railroad. The original tracks were electrified in the early 1900s, with Conrail taking control during the 1970s as part of the takeover of railroads in the United States.

As part of the Conrail Shared Assets Operations, the NY9A falls under responsibility with other lines across the North Jersey Shared Assets area. Efforts have been made to modernize the NY9A by optimizing operational practices, upgrading infrastructure, and optimizing network integration, supporting the goal of enhancing cargo movement services through the port region.
