Müürimaterjal

Müürimaterjal refers to any substance used in the construction of walls. Historically, natural materials such as stone, wood, and clay were the primary müürimaterjal. These materials were readily available and shaped by local resources. Stone walls offered durability and thermal mass, while wooden structures provided a lighter, more easily workable option. Clay, often mixed with straw to form adobe or cob, was prevalent in drier climates.

With technological advancements, a wider array of müürimaterjal became available. Bricks, manufactured from clay and fired in kilns, offered uniformity and strength, becoming a popular choice for both structural and decorative purposes. Concrete, a composite material made from cement, aggregates, and water, is another widely used müürimaterjal, known for its compressive strength and versatility. It can be cast into various shapes or used as mortar to bind other materials.

Modern construction also utilizes engineered materials. Concrete blocks, hollow or solid, provide a lightweight yet strong alternative to traditional bricks. Steel, often used as a structural frame, can also be a component of wall systems, particularly in combination with other insulation and cladding materials. Insulating concrete forms (ICFs) combine structural concrete with integrated insulation, offering energy efficiency. The choice of müürimaterjal depends on factors such as structural requirements, climate, budget, aesthetics, and availability.
