Månadscykler, commonly referred to as menstrual cycles, are a natural biological process in individuals with a uterus. These cycles typically occur monthly and are orchestrated by a complex interplay of hormones. The primary purpose of a monthly cycle is to prepare the body for a potential pregnancy.

Each cycle begins with menstruation, also known as a period, which is the shedding of the uterine lining if conception does not occur. Following menstruation, the ovaries release an egg during ovulation. This egg travels down the fallopian tube, where it can be fertilized by sperm. If fertilization takes place, the fertilized egg implants in the thickened uterine lining. If fertilization does not happen, the uterine lining breaks down, and the cycle begins again with menstruation.

The length of a monthly cycle can vary significantly from person to person, with an average cycle being around 28 days. Factors such as age, stress, diet, and certain medical conditions can influence cycle regularity and duration. Tracking monthly cycles can be a useful tool for understanding reproductive health and for family planning.
