Májbetegségekkel is a Hungarian term referring to diseases of the liver. The liver is a vital organ responsible for numerous functions, including detoxification, protein synthesis, and production of biochemicals necessary for digestion. When the liver is damaged or diseased, these functions can be impaired, leading to a variety of health problems.

There are many causes of liver disease, including viral infections like hepatitis A, B, and C, excessive alcohol consumption, fatty liver disease (often associated with obesity and diabetes), autoimmune disorders, genetic conditions, and exposure to toxins. The symptoms of liver disease can vary widely depending on the specific condition and its severity. Some common symptoms include jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), fatigue, abdominal pain and swelling, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. In more advanced stages, complications such as liver failure and liver cancer can develop.

Diagnosis of liver disease typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, blood tests to assess liver function and detect viral markers, imaging techniques like ultrasound or CT scans, and sometimes a liver biopsy to examine the liver tissue directly. Treatment approaches depend on the underlying cause and can range from lifestyle modifications (e.g., abstaining from alcohol, weight loss) to antiviral medications, immunosuppressants, or in severe cases, liver transplantation. Early detection and management are crucial for preventing progression and improving outcomes for individuals with liver conditions.
