Myrmecophila is a genus of orchids belonging to the family Orchidaceae. These epiphytic plants are native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, particularly in Central and South America. The name "Myrmecophila" is derived from the Greek words "myrmex" meaning ant and "phileo" meaning to love, reflecting the symbiotic relationship these orchids often have with ants.

These orchids are characterized by their sympodial growth habit, meaning they grow from a creeping rhizome. They typically produce pseudobulbs, which are swollen stem sections that store water and nutrients. From these pseudobulbs arise one or more leaves, which can vary in shape and size depending on the species. The inflorescences are usually erect or arching racemes bearing several flowers.

The flowers of Myrmecophila orchids are often showy and fragrant. They typically have three sepals and three petals, with one of the petals modified into a prominent labellum, or lip. The color and morphology of the flowers can differ significantly between species, but they are often white, yellow, or pinkish, sometimes with intricate patterns.

A notable characteristic of many Myrmecophila species is their association with ants. The pseudobulbs of some species possess hollow chambers or "domatia" that provide shelter for ant colonies. In return for this housing, the ants often defend the orchid from herbivores and may also contribute to nutrient cycling around the plant. This mutualistic relationship is a key ecological feature of the genus. Myrmecophila orchids are often found growing on trees in humid forests, where they receive dappled sunlight and high humidity.
