Muuntokäsittelyaineet, often translated as "processing aids," are additives used in the polymer industry to improve the manufacturing process of plastics. Their primary function is to facilitate the processing of polymers, making them more fluid and easier to shape during extrusion, injection molding, and other manufacturing techniques. These substances can reduce melt viscosity, improve flow properties, and prevent sticking to processing equipment.

There are several types of muuntokäsittelyaineet, each with a specific function. Lubricants, for example, reduce friction between polymer chains and between the polymer melt and machinery surfaces, preventing degradation and improving surface finish. Flow modifiers increase the melt flow rate, allowing for faster processing speeds and the ability to produce thinner or more complex parts. Anti-blocking agents prevent plastic films from sticking together. Other processing aids can improve dispersion of fillers and pigments within the polymer matrix.
