Multisysteminen

Multisysteminen is a Swedish term that translates to "multisystemic" in English. It describes an approach or intervention that considers and addresses multiple interconnected systems influencing an individual or situation. These systems can include family, school, community, and even broader societal factors. The core idea is that problems are rarely isolated and often arise from or are maintained by interactions within and between various environmental contexts.

A multisystemic approach typically involves working with various stakeholders within these different systems to create positive change. For example, in child welfare or juvenile justice, a multisystemic therapy (MST) model focuses on empowering families and building their capacity to manage challenging behaviors by involving parents, teachers, and other community members. This contrasts with interventions that focus solely on the individual without considering their broader environment. The goal is to foster a supportive network and enhance the functioning of all relevant systems to achieve lasting improvements. This holistic perspective recognizes the complexity of human behavior and the environment in which it occurs.
