Multiplexhez

Multiplexhez is a proposed data transmission protocol designed to support simultaneous transmission of multiple data streams over a single physical medium by integrating hybrid multiplexing techniques with a modular framing scheme.

It combines time-division, frequency-division, and code-division elements within a layered frame structure. Each frame carries a control header, per-channel descriptors, and forward error correction codes. A dynamic scheduler assigns time slots, sub-bands, and code sequences to active streams, allowing channels to be added, removed, or re-prioritized without disrupting ongoing traffic. The design emphasizes low-latency switching and resilience to channel impairments.

Key features include adaptive bandwidth allocation, quality-of-service guarantees, and built-in security headers. The protocol supports multiple physical layers and can be implemented as software on programmable NICs or as firmware in dedicated transceivers. It aims to reduce the need for separate multiplexing layers in complex networks.

Potential applications include data-center interconnects, backhaul networks for IoT devices, multimedia streaming, and space or satellite links where multiple data streams must be carried efficiently over a constrained link.

History and status: The term multiplexhez emerged in academic discussions in the mid-2020s as a conceptual framework for unified multiplexing.
