MultiKriterienEntscheidungstheorie, often abbreviated as MCDM, is a subfield of operations research and decision analysis that deals with making decisions in the presence of multiple, often conflicting, criteria. When faced with a choice among several alternatives, each alternative is evaluated based on several attributes or objectives. The challenge lies in aggregating these multiple criteria into a single measure of preference or a ranking of the alternatives.

The core idea of MCDM is to provide a systematic framework for structuring complex decisions. MCDM finds applications in a wide range of fields, including environmental management, policy analysis, engineering design, finance, and marketing, where complex trade-offs are inherent in decision-making processes.
