Mullerthal

The Mullerthal, also known as Muellerthal in German and commonly referred to as Little Switzerland, is a hilly region in eastern Luxembourg. It lies within the Luxembourg Ardennes and is renowned for its sandstone rock formations and dense forests. The area is a popular destination for outdoor activities, especially hiking and rock climbing.

Geology and landscape: The landscape is dominated by sandstone outcrops, crevices, and narrow ravines carved by erosion over millions of years. The rocky terrain rises above wooded valleys, producing dramatic views and a labyrinth of trails through caves, arches, and ledges.

Recreation and notable sites: The Mullerthal Trail is a long-distance hiking network of about 112 kilometers, divided into three main routes. It links villages such as Berdorf and Consdorf with vantage points, rock formations, and scenic overlooks. The area is also favored by climbers who use the sandstone features for sport climbing and bouldering.
