Mtappisolut rises from rugged, glaciated terrain. The southern slopes drain toward the Glinting River valley, while the northern face falls into spruce forests and alpine meadows. The climate is alpine, with cold winds and brief, bright summers; snow can persist on the upper slopes year-round in some depictions.

The mountain is described as primarily metamorphic rock with granitoid intrusions. It is said to have formed during tectonic uplift in the Mesozoic era and later shaped by alpine glaciation, which produced cirques, ridges, and talus fields along its flanks.

The name Mtappisolut appears as Mtappisolut, Mt Appisolut, and Mtappiso-lut in various maps; etymologists in the setting suggest a compound of the Mount prefix with a local root meaning 'ice summit' or 'high peak.'

In fictional lore, the summit is associated with dawn rituals and is treated as a waypoint for travelers crossing the highlands. A sheltered cave on the west flank features in several legends.
