Motorství is a branch of mechanical engineering focused on engines and propulsion systems. It covers the development, design, production, and operation of power units such as internal combustion engines, electric motors, and related drive trains, as well as their integration with control systems, energy supply, and thermal management.

Core activities include engine and drivetrain design, performance optimization, emissions control, fuel economy, durability testing, and materials research for engine components. It intersects with thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, tribology, electronics, and mechatronics. In practice, motorství encompasses both conventional engines and modern alternative propulsion, including hybrid and electric drive systems, as well as propulsion for ships, aircraft, and industrial machinery.

Education and profession: In Czech technical education, motorství may appear as a specialization within strojírenství or automobilové inženýrství, and is taught at universities and polytechnics. Graduates work in automotive, aerospace, shipbuilding, energy, and machinery sectors, focusing on design, testing, production, maintenance, and research.
