Motorfahrzeug is a term used in German-speaking areas to denote a self-propelled vehicle designed for road transport on land. It is powered by an engine or motor and is capable of moving under its own power, as opposed to towed or non-motorized conveyances. In many contexts, it is synonymous with Kraftfahrzeug, though some jurisdictions distinguish the two terms in legal definitions.

Typical examples are automobiles (cars), motorcycles, mopeds, trucks and buses, as well as other road-going motor vehicles such as vans and tractors used for road transport. The propulsion can be internal combustion, electric or alternative powertrains, including hybrids and fuel cells.

Motorfahrzeuge are generally subject to vehicle registration and licensing, liability insurance, and periodic technical inspections. They must comply with road traffic regulations, safety and environmental standards, and may be assessed for roadworthiness during inspections (for example, MFK in Switzerland, TUV in Germany).

Key components include the powertrain (engine or motor), transmission, chassis and suspension, brakes, steering, and body. Safety features vary by vehicle class but commonly include seat belts, airbags and anti-lock braking systems.
