Moosiküpsis

Moosiküpsis is a Hungarian term that combines the words *mozi* (movie theater) and *küldés* (sending or dispatching), referring to the practice of sending unsolicited promotional materials or advertisements to households. This method was commonly used in Hungary during the mid-20th century, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s, as a way to promote films, cultural events, or consumer products.

The process typically involved printing promotional flyers, posters, or brochures and distributing them door-to-door or through postal services. These materials often included information about upcoming movie screenings, theater schedules, or advertisements for goods and services. In the context of cinema, moosiküpsis was a direct marketing strategy to encourage attendance at film screenings, especially for new releases or popular titles.

The practice declined with the rise of modern advertising methods, such as television commercials and digital marketing, as well as changes in consumer behavior. While moosiküpsis was an effective way to reach a broad audience in an era with limited media options, it was also seen as intrusive by some recipients. Today, the term is largely historical, reflecting a bygone era of direct, community-based marketing in Hungary.
