Monoteismus

Monoteismus is the belief in the existence of only one God. This contrasts with polytheism, which is the belief in multiple gods, and atheism, which is the disbelief in any gods. Monotheistic religions typically attribute to their single God qualities such as omnipotence (all-powerful), omniscience (all-knowing), and omnipresence (present everywhere).

The concept of monotheism has played a significant role in the history of human thought and religion. While ancient civilizations often practiced polytheism, several major world religions have developed as monotheistic traditions. The most prominent examples include Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, often referred to as the Abrahamic religions due to their shared lineage tracing back to the prophet Abraham. Zoroastrianism is another ancient religion often considered monotheistic or dualistic with a strong monotheistic tendency. Sikhism is also a religion that centers around the worship of one God.

In these monotheistic faiths, the relationship between God and humanity is often a central theme, involving concepts of divine revelation, worship, prayer, and moral codes. The rejection of other deities is a defining characteristic, and the worship of any other god is typically considered idolatry. The precise nature and attributes of the one God can vary between different monotheistic traditions, but the core tenet of a single divine being remains constant.
