Monileptus

Monileptus is a genus of gastropods belonging to the family Charopidae. These small land snails are found in various habitats, primarily within Australia. Their shells are typically discoidal and can exhibit a range of colors from light brown to darker shades. A notable characteristic of some Monileptus species is the presence of fine spiral threads or ribs on their shell surface, which can give them a somewhat beaded appearance, hence the genus name derived from the Latin "monile" meaning necklace.

The diet of Monileptus species generally consists of decaying organic matter, fungi, and algae found in leaf litter, under rocks, or on damp soil. They are most active during humid conditions, often emerging after rain. Their reproductive strategy is typical of many terrestrial pulmonate snails, involving internal fertilization and the laying of small, oval eggs in moist soil or other protected environments. The juvenile snails hatch as miniature versions of the adults and are capable of independent survival.
