Modellierungstheorie

Modellierungstheorie, also known as theory of modeling, is a branch of applied mathematics and computer science concerned with the principles and methods used to create and evaluate models. A model is a simplified representation of a system, process, or phenomenon, used to understand, predict, or control its behavior. The theory explores how to abstract essential features from complex reality, how to translate these features into a formal language (mathematical equations, algorithms, diagrams, etc.), and how to ensure the model accurately reflects the original system within its intended scope.

Key aspects of modeling theory include the identification of relevant variables, the determination of relationships between them, and the validation of the model against empirical data.
