Moabs

Moabs is a term that can refer to several distinct subjects that share the same name but are otherwise unrelated. It commonly denotes the ancient Moabites and their kingdom in the eastern Transjordan, the city of Moab in Utah, United States, and the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast, a large conventional bomb developed by the United States.

The Moabites were a Semitic people who inhabited the kingdom of Moab, located in the eastern Jordanian plateau east of the Dead Sea. The Moabite language is a Northwest Semitic language closely related to Hebrew, attested by inscriptions such as the Mesha Stele from the 9th century BCE. Biblical sources describe interactions with ancient Israel and neighboring states; the kingdom declined under successive empires and the population was absorbed into broader regional polities.

MOAB bomb: The GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast, commonly called MOAB and nicknamed the “Mother of All Bombs,” is a large conventional explosive device developed by the United States. Weighing about 21,600 pounds (approximately 9,800 kilograms), it was designed to produce a wide-area blast. It was first tested in 2003 and used in combat in 2017 in Afghanistan against fortified positions.
