Mixingtests

MixingTests are a type of non-impact dye or pigment test used in quality control laboratories to detect the presence of standards or reagents. The test is typically employed in conjunction with a thiourea test, also known as the Lassaigne test. Thiourea is a reducing agent that reacts with the metals present in the standards and produces a purple coloration when heated with sulfur.

The mixingtest is often less specific than other types of dye or pigment tests, such as the Benedict's test, but is frequently used as an initial screening method. The procedure involves the deliberate mixing of a controlled amount of sample with a reagent, such as sulfuric acid and sodium aqua regia, allowing the color reaction to take place. The resulting solution is then observed for the characteristic purplish coloration.

However, as the method is somewhat haphazard and lacks total specificity when compared to more specialized methods, it cannot be utilized for the identification of unknown sample.
