Mistrals
Mistrals are a type of local wind that blows in the Mediterranean region, most notably along the French Riviera. They are known for their strong, cold, and dry characteristics. These winds typically occur during the winter months, but can also appear in other seasons. The phenomenon is caused by a confluence of factors, including a high-pressure system over the Gulf of Lyon and a low-pressure system to the east, often over Italy or the Ligurian Sea. This pressure gradient drives the air southward.
The Mistral originates in the north, often from the Massif Central or the Cévennes mountains in France.
The effects of the Mistral can be significant. It can impact local agriculture by damaging crops and
