Miljørapportering

Miljørapportering is the process by which an organization collects, analyzes, and discloses information about its environmental impacts and performance. The goal is to provide stakeholders—such as employees, investors, customers, regulators, and the public—with a transparent account of how the entity uses resources, emits pollutants, manages waste, and protects ecosystems. Reports commonly cover energy use and efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, waste generation and disposal, chemical handling, biodiversity, and supply-chain effects.

In Nordic countries such as Denmark and Norway, environmental reporting is supported by national regulations or embedded in broader sustainability reporting. In the European Union, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive requires large companies to disclose environmental matters and related sustainability risks. Organizations may also adopt voluntary standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), ISO 14001, SASB, or the TCFD framework.

The reporting process typically involves identifying material environmental issues, collecting data from across operations, sometimes third-party assurance, and publishing an annual or integrated report. Reports are used for regulatory compliance, risk management, governance, and stakeholder communication. Limitations include data quality, comparability between organizations, and the risk of greenwashing when information is incomplete or unverifiable.
