Mikroekosystems

Mikroekosystems, a term often used interchangeably with micro-ecosystems or miniature ecosystems, refers to small-scale, self-contained environments that mimic the complex interactions found in larger natural ecosystems. These systems are typically created in laboratories or controlled settings for scientific research, educational purposes, or as decorative displays. They are designed to encapsulate a variety of living organisms, such as plants, microorganisms, and sometimes small invertebrates, along with their physical environment, including soil, water, and air.

The fundamental principle behind mikroekosystems is the establishment of a balanced cycle of life, much like in nature. Producers, such as plants or algae, convert light energy into organic matter through photosynthesis. Consumers, which can be microscopic or small macroscopic organisms, feed on the producers or other consumers. Decomposers, like bacteria and fungi, break down dead organic material, returning essential nutrients to the system for producers to utilize.
