Miklouho-Maclay was a Czech-Austrian explorer, ethnographer, and naturalist whose work significantly contributed to the understanding of Melanesia and Aboriginal Australia in the late 19th century. Born **Ludvík August Červený** on November 14, 1847, in Prague, he later adopted the name Miklouho-Maclay in honor of his mother’s maiden name and the Scottish explorer Alexander Maclay, whose writings inspired his early interest in the Pacific.
