Midlinebearing

Midlinebearing is a descriptive term used in engineering and biomechanics to describe a bearing, bearing surface, or load path whose primary line of action coincides with the midline of a component or body. The midline is the imaginary plane dividing left and right halves, or the central axis of rotation, depending on context. The concept emphasizes symmetry in load transfer and minimal eccentricity of the bearing relative to the structure.

In mechanical design, a midline bearing aligns with the component's midline to reduce bending moments and torsional loading during rotation, promoting uniform wear and longer life. It is often realized as a centralized journal, a central bore, or a bore aligned with the gear or crank centerline, especially in compact or balanced assemblies. When alignment deviates, eccentric loading can cause tilting, noise, or premature failure.
