Michelstadts

Michelstadts is a fictional municipality and town in the region of Oberwald in Veridia. It lies on the Amsel River, about 60 kilometers north of Veridia’s capital and covers roughly 28 square kilometers. The historic core is surrounded by rural areas and several small hamlets. For clarity, Michelstadts should not be confused with the real town of Michelstadt in Germany.

The first written mention of Michelstadts dates from 1234. It developed as a market town during the Middle Ages, with fortifications and a harbor for local trade. The town expanded through centuries of mixed agriculture and crafts, and experienced modernization in the 19th and 20th centuries, retaining a well-preserved historic center.

As of 2023, Michelstadts has about 8,200 residents. The local government consists of a mayor and an 18-member municipal council elected every five years. The administration provides municipal services, urban planning, and cultural programming for the community.

Economy in Michelstadts combines light manufacturing, timber processing, and agricultural services, with tourism anchored in the preserved old town. A small industrial park and a weekly farmers’ market support local employment, while small shops and eateries cater to residents and visitors.

Culture and landmarks include the Old Town Gate and the 14th-century St. Mary’s Church, which features period architecture and notable frescoes. The town also hosts an annual harvest festival and a summer music series, contributing to a modest cultural scene.
