Mezzoreliëf
Mezzorelieëf, also known as mezzo-relief or half-relief, is a sculptural technique where the degree of projection from the surrounding surface is less than that of high relief but more than that of low relief or bas-relief. In this form of sculpture, approximately half of the sculpted form protrudes from the background. The figures and elements in mezzorelieëf are therefore more rounded and three-dimensional than those in bas-relief, allowing for greater detail and a stronger sense of depth. However, they do not typically stand out as fully as in alto-relief (high relief), where a significant portion, or even the entirety, of the subject may be detached from the background.
The term "mezzo" is Italian for "half," directly referencing the intermediate depth of this relief style. Mezzorelieëf
