Metsästysmuoto refers to the Finnish term for a type of hunt or hunting method. It encompasses the various ways in which game animals are pursued and harvested, often dictated by the species being hunted, the terrain, the season, and legal regulations. These forms can be broadly categorized. For instance, active hunting, known as "passiivinen metsästys" in Finnish, involves stalking or still-hunting, where the hunter moves through the habitat to locate and approach game. This contrasts with passive methods, such as setting up ambushes or using blinds, where the hunter waits for game to come to them.

Another significant distinction is between driven hunts and individual hunts. Driven hunts, or "ajometsästys," typically involve a group of hunters and beaters who systematically drive game towards waiting shooters. This is common for larger game like deer and wild boar. Individual hunts, conversely, are carried out by a single hunter or a small party, focusing on tracking or spotting game. The choice of metsästysmuoto is crucial for efficiency and ethical hunting practices, ensuring that the hunter is adequately prepared and respects the natural behavior of the animals. Furthermore, different metsästysmuodot may require specific equipment, such as specialized firearms, dogs, or vehicles. Legal frameworks in Finland often specify which metsästysmuodot are permissible for different game species and during specific hunting periods.
