Metallijätit refers to a group of Finnish heavy metal bands that emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s, becoming one of the most influential scenes in the country’s metal music history. The term, which translates to "Metal Gods" in English, was popularized by the band Amorphis, who played a central role in defining the sound and ethos of the movement. This collective of bands blended elements of traditional Finnish folk music with heavy metal, creating a unique and powerful style that resonated both nationally and internationally.

The Metallijätit scene was rooted in the city of Kuopio, where many of the key bands formed. Notable groups associated with the movement include Amorphis, Children of Bodom, and Korpiklaani, though the latter emerged slightly later and incorporated more folk influences. The music often featured dark, atmospheric melodies, intricate guitar work, and themes inspired by Finnish mythology, nature, and folklore.
