Metadatachange refers to a formal modification or proposal to modify the metadata associated with a digital asset or data asset. Metadata changes can affect descriptive, structural, provenance, quality, or governance information and are typically tracked to support auditability and governance.

The change is then applied to the metadata store and stakeholders are informed. An audit log records who proposed and approved the change, when it occurred, and the exact modifications.

It identifies the target asset, the specific metadata aspects being altered, old and new values, a justification, timestamp, and the author.
