Merkintäprosessit, known in English as marking processes, refer to the various methods and techniques used to apply permanent or semi-permanent marks on objects. These marks can serve a multitude of purposes, including identification, traceability, decoration, and information conveyance. The choice of marking process depends heavily on the material being marked, the desired durability of the mark, the required precision, and the intended application.

Common marking processes include laser marking, which utilizes a laser beam to alter the surface of a material, creating a contrast. This method is highly precise and versatile, suitable for metals, plastics, and ceramics. Another widely used technique is etching, which involves removing material from the surface using chemicals or physical abrasion.
