Meningsflyt

Meningsflyt is a concept used in linguistics and communication studies to describe how meaning unfolds and remains coherent as a text or spoken discourse progresses. The term is a compound of mening (meaning) and flyt (flow) and refers to the perceived smoothness with which ideas connect, refer back to earlier information, and guide a reader or listener toward interpretation.

In practice, meningsflyt involves several interrelated elements. Coherence relations link sentences and ideas (for example cause–effect, contrast, or elaboration), while cohesion devices such as pronouns, demonstratives, and lexical repetition help maintain a continuous thread. The handling of given and new information, thematic progression (theme and rheme), and the management of references across sentences all contribute to the flow of meaning.

Analyses of meningsflyt often draw on discourse and text-structure theories, including how transitions, pacing, and emphasis affect comprehension.
