Meldras

Meldras is a fictional city-state on the eastern coast of the continent of Aethra. As a major port and administrative center, it functions within the Meldrian Commonwealth.

It sits on a natural harbor along the Serene Sea, with a historic hilltop core and newer districts along the waterfront. The climate is temperate and maritime.

Founded by the Meldri people in the early medieval era, Meldras developed as a trading hub. It achieved de facto independence in the 12th century and later joined regional alliances while maintaining its own legal traditions.

Meldras operates as a city-state with a mayor–council government. The 21-member City Council enacts laws, and the mayor serves as chief executive. The judiciary is locally administered with appellate oversight at the regional level.

The port, shipbuilding, and logistics sectors form the core economy, complemented by manufacturing, fisheries, education, and tourism. The harbor supports container traffic and passenger ferries, making Meldras a transportation and services hub.

The population is diverse. Meldaran is the historical language, with a multilingual workforce. The city hosts maritime and cultural festivals, a university, museums, and libraries.

The city is served by a deep-water port, a ring road, light rail, and Meldras International Airport. Rail and road links to inland markets connect Meldras to the wider region.

Notable landmarks include the Old Harbor, Hilltop Citadel, Observatory Tower, and the Great Library.
