These forms illustrate how the second phase modifies wood's characteristics for particular applications.

Manufacturing involves resin impregnation, extrusion or molding for composites, compression lamination for panels, and heat or chemical treatments. Material selection seeks to balance the renewable aspects of wood with the performance gains provided by the second phase, while process conditions influence final properties and cost.
