Marmorana

Marmorana is a genus of small edible land snails, popularly known as "marble snails". They are part of the family Hygromiidae. Marmorana snails are typically found in various regions of Europe, with a range that extends from the Iberian Peninsula to the Balkan Peninsula.

These snails are often characterized by their glossy and homoeomorphous shells, which are usually brown or gray in color, with distinctive pattern variations. Their conical to ovate shells are generally smaller in size than other snail species, measuring between 12 and 20 millimeters in length.

As land snails, Marmorana specimens are primarily terrestrial, living on the ground in habitats that span a wide variety of environments. These may include deciduous or coniferous forests, areas with calcareous soils, and shallow soil layers.

Marmorana snails are terrestrial herbivores, feeding exclusively on plants and plant parts. They tend to consume the leaves, stems, and roots of their host plants. In their reproductive lives, Marmorana snails lay relatively large eggs compared to other snail species.
