Markförsämring

Markförsämring, or land degradation, refers to the decline in the quality and productivity of land over time. This deterioration can manifest in various ways, including soil erosion, loss of soil fertility, desertification, salinization, and waterlogging. These processes reduce the land's ability to support agriculture, ecosystems, and human settlements.

The causes of markförsämring are often a combination of natural factors and human activities. Natural factors can include extreme weather events, such as prolonged droughts or heavy rainfall, which can exacerbate soil erosion. However, human activities are widely recognized as the primary drivers. Unsustainable agricultural practices, such as overgrazing, intensive monoculture farming, and improper use of fertilizers and pesticides, deplete soil nutrients and structure.
