Marists
The Marists are a religious congregation of men within the Catholic Church dedicated to following Jesus Christ in the spirit of Mary. Founded in France in 1836 by Jean-Claude Colin, a diocesan priest, the Society of Mary, as they are formally known, emerged from the aftermath of the French Revolution and a desire to renew the Church's missionary efforts. Their charism centers on living a simple, apostolic life devoted to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and to the evangelization of peoples, particularly in places where Christianity is new or has declined.
