MarchJune

MarchJune is a contemporary art and cultural research project that investigates the cultural meanings and artistic representations of the months March and June as interconnected temporal states. The project treats March and June not as fixed calendars but as conceptual spaces that signal transition, renewal, and anticipation within different geographies and communities.

Origin and scope: MarchJune was founded in 2010 by a collective of artists, curators, and scholars who sought to map seasonal imagery across literature, film, visual art, and urban space. Initially a small curatorial initiative in a European city, it expanded into an online archive, publications, exhibitions, and public programs.

Activities: The project runs exhibitions in galleries and public spaces, hosts screenings and talks, and maintains an open-access online archive of artworks and essays. It publishes occasional compendia and a zine series, and it coordinates residencies and collaborations with local cultural institutions to produce time-based installations.

Selected works: Notable projects include Seasonal Interventions (2012), an installation series in parks that reimagined the transition from late winter to spring; Two Moods of the Year (2015), a multimedia installation contrasting the austere mood of March with the luminous potential of June; and June in March (2019), a short film pairing archival footage of early summer with speculative narratives of anticipation.

Reception: Critics have described MarchJune as a thoughtful inquiry into temporality and seasonal perception, with emphasis on public space and accessibility. It has influenced curatorial approaches to time-based art and seasonal programming in several institutions.
