Malithar is a fictional city-state in the Therion setting. It sits along the Silvermere River and on a coastal harbor, and is known for maritime trade, artisanal crafts, and a longstanding tradition of political independence.

Geography and urban layout. The city center occupies a river delta, with canals and quays interwoven with narrow streets. The surrounding countryside includes orchards and vineyards, while the northern hills provide defensive landmarks. The harbor handles a diverse fleet, linking inland markets to distant ports.

History. Malithar arose as a guild-driven settlement in the early centuries of the Common Era and developed into a city-state through successive political consolidations. It prospered as a trading hub and navigated periods of conflict by maintaining a flexible alliance network. A major seismic event and subsequent rebuilding are part of local lore, but the city emerged with renewed commercial and cultural ties to its neighbors.

Government and society. Malithar is governed by a council-led republic featuring a citizen assembly and a mayor elected from among guild representatives. Economic and defensive matters are organized through guild and committee structures, while external relations are handled by a dedicated Council of Negotiators. Citizenship is closely tied to guild membership and urban residency.

Economy and infrastructure. The city is renowned for glassware, textiles, and paper production, supported by river transport and port facilities. Its markets attract merchants from neighboring regions, and workshops line the narrow streets, producing goods for both inland and coastal buyers. A network of roads and docks connects Malithar to the broader Therion economy.

Culture and language. The Malithari language (with regional dialects) is commonly spoken alongside trade languages. Festivals honor seasonal cycles, waterways, and craft traditions, often featuring processions, music, and artisans at work. Local cuisine blends river fish, cured meats, and farm produce.
